Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) will invest 33.7B Swedish crowns (about $3.21B) to boost its cloud and AI infrastructure in Sweden over two years, Reuters reported.
This would be the U.S. tech giant’s largest investment in Sweden and includes a commitment to help train about 250,000 people with AI skills, representing about 2.4% of the country’s population to help boost the nation’s competitiveness, the report added.
Microsoft intends to add 20,000 graphics processing units, or GPUs, at its data centers in Sandviken, Gavle and Staffanstorp.
Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith was slated to meet Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Stockholm on Monday.
Microsoft noted that it was committed to expanding AI adoption in the Nordic region, which in addition to Sweden includes Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway, the report added.
