‘One Nation, One Election’ and decadal census: reveals Amit Shah for Modi 3.0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration is poised to make significant changes with the introduction of “One Nation, One Election,” which aims to synchronize Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections within its current term. This initiative, designed to streamline the electoral process, is expected to garner support from all political parties, especially those in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Decadal Census on the Horizon: What to Expect?

The long-awaited decadal census, last conducted in 2011, is gearing up to start soon. Senior government sources confirm that preparations are underway. This crucial data collection effort promises to provide valuable insights into the nation’s demographic trends and patterns.

Prime Minister Modi first proposed the idea of simultaneous elections shortly after taking office in 2014. A committee led by former President Ram Nath Kovind reviewed this proposal and suggested not only synchronizing Parliament and state assembly elections but also scheduling local body elections within 100 days. Modi reinforced this vision in his Independence Day address, urging political parties to support the initiative.

Regarding the upcoming census, officials are preparing to begin the exercise shortly. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Assembly elections, officials have clarified that the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami is unrelated to its electoral aspirations. Despite the outfit’s support for independent candidates and its calls to lift the ban, the issue remains rooted in the organization’s past activities and requires an independent review.

 Modi 3.0 Government’s 100-Day Milestone

As the “Modi 3.0 government” approaches its 100-day milestone next week, it remains committed to its 2014 agenda. Despite a greater reliance on coalition allies, the administration plans to highlight its achievements over the past decade. Key accomplishments include a ₹3 lakh crore infrastructure investment, ongoing governance reforms, and the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP). Notably, the NEP has seen rare bipartisan support, even from the Left parties.

The NDA government, which took office on June 9, is set to demonstrate its progress as part of the ongoing 100-day program. The focus will be on showcasing achievements, enhancing communication, and ensuring robust coordination among its partners. The administration aims to underline its commitment to fulfilling its promises and advancing key national priorities.
